Royal Perth Hospital Burns & Trauma Unit
The Project
To provide Electrical Services and all associated specialist requirements to the proposed 40 bed Burns & Trauma Unit.
Timeline
The project was a technically challenging contract that was required to be completed within a strict 13 month schedule, whilst a fully active hospital was operating around the project 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Overview
Headed by Australian of the Year, Dr. Fiona Woods, AO, this specialist unit at Royal Perth Hospital required the design and installation of light, power, distribution boards and sub-mains. TES also provided Nurse Call, MATV, Data & Communications, Access Control, Fire Detection, Medical Ducting and an intricate ‘door interlocking’ system to the highly sterile Burns Unit area.
The hospital is one of the State’s busiest and the project required an extremely close working relationship with the hospital’s senior personnel. Compliance with the stringent hospital requirements and National Standards was critical.
A doubled layered ceiling was under a ‘vacuum’ to minimise any dust or particles falling into burn victims. Each room also had double interlocking doors to keep the sterilised room under pressure, again to minimise any foreign particles. All electrical penetrations, light fittings and accessories were fully sealed to maintain air tightness.
